Outsider porn by David Hurles
On Friday, Marianne Boesky’s 24th St space opened a show of David Hurles black and white photographs curated by filmmaker and visual artist John Waters and Dian Hanson. The small scale photographs capture male sexuality in a direct way. Hurles started to take these pictures in 1968 by pulling the roughest men he could find on the streets from hustlers to murderers and placing them in these nondescript environments. Hurles’ style allows their bodies and psychology to take center stage. These images were later supplied to gay porn companies. Text and picture by Julia Balestin

Miranda July Union Square Park, New York
Deitch Projects opened its last public project over the weekend with Miranda July’s Eleven Heavy Things. Originally shown at the Venice Biennale, the fiberglass interactive sculptures are now exhibited in New York’s Union Square. The eleven cleverly designed works function as props that encourage passersby to engage and pose. July hopes that visitors will upload the photos they take onto the internet and move from the view to participant in art. Photo Olivier Zahm and text Juliana Balestin.
