Christian Marclay at the Whitney

The summer of interactive exhibitions (think Miranda July and Marina Abramovic) continues with Christian Marclay’s Festival at the Whitney. The American born artist devotes himself to the combining and reinterpreting of the visual and musical arenas. The Whitney exhibition includes large scale chalkboards with music lines running the length of one gallery. Chalk distributed to visitors encourages them to add their own musical notes and words to create an ever evolving score which plays at random throughout the duration of the show. Musicians, including members of Sonic Youth, will also perform Marclay’s score. Text and Photo Juliana Balestin

Taking over the location of Shepard Fairey’s defaced mural, artist Barry McGee is the latest contributor to the Bowery and Houston wall space. Still a work in progress, the first layer of graffiti style word imagery went up over the weekend. McGee previously exhibited with the now closed Deitch Projects and is known for presenting works which combine traditions of street art with Mexican mural techniques. Text and Photo Juliana Balestin

The new issue of the swedish publication Livraison is launched, oscilating between open landscapes and closed rooms, it distillates a kind of northern romanticism. Livraison mixes abstract works and hybrid forms with many interresting contributors, from Thomas Struth to the experimental filmmaker Philippe Grandrieux, it brings an elegiac atmosphere.
